Dscover Me is a social networking tool designed to help users connect through their web browsing activity. The application works when the user installs a browser add on and selects which items they want to share. Dscover Me only shares the items the user specifies so there are no privacy issues. As they browse, key items they view that match the criteria they chose to share are updated on their Dscover Me profile. This includes things like website URLs, video clips, and products. Other users can see these items and begin conversations as they learn more about the user and what they like. Users can also follow one another and look for common interests. For example, someone with a very fashionable friend may watch their Dscover Me profile for product updates on clothing they are checking out. The updates make it easy to not just read but actually see what the other user is looking at online.Show more screenshots »
Dscover Me was founded in September of 2010 by Paul Jones and Josh Payne. It was created as a new way to network, through social content. Users can discover what their friends are reading online and check out items that look interesting. The add on currently only works with Google Chrome, although the application is still rather young.
Dscover Me is not just another vanilla social networking website. It allows users to connect through their web browsing activities. Not only does this open up new social avenues and the potential for relevant discussion, but it also makes browsing the web more interesting. By adding the social element, Dscover Me encourages users to explore the web and find out what their friends are reading and viewing.
The Dscover Me website has a very user friendly layout. There is minimal clutter, but plenty of information and tools to learn about the application and begin using it. The actual application is also very simple to use. It can be added to a Google Chrome browser with a simple list of check boxes that the user can select to determine which content they would like to share with their network.
Anyone who would like to begin using Dscover Me can do so by logging in to their Facebook profiles. There are two buttons present on the homepage, one along the left hand side and one at the top right hand corner. These are blue and contain the easily recognizable Facebook logo. The user can click either and enter their Facebook login information to begin. Unfortunately no traditional registration form is offered. There is no word on whether or not this will change in the future. Dscover Me is still in beta, so future updates may include a form or additional login options. Adding a Google account login would be a nice touch.
Dscover Me doesn’t really offer a service that most users would want to pay for. It is still fun and interesting and gives users a new way to connect with their friends and people they meet online. Dscover Me benefits from having more users as well. To help nurture population growth, Dscover Me allows anyone to make an account for free. This works well, especially considering the only login option currently available is through Facebook (which is also free).
Anyone who loves social networking and spends any amount of time browsing the web can really enjoy Dscover Me. The site gives users a new way to meet and connect. By finding common interests through content, relevant discussions can begin that could lead to the discovery of more interesting content.
